Course Description
This year long standards based course places an emphasis on applications and extensions of students understanding of the five content standards: Number and Operations, Algebra, Geometry and Measurement, and Data Analysis and Probability. Throughout the course there is an emphasis on problem solving, communication, reasoning, representations, and connections to the real world. Students will use the adopted text book, Carnegie Learning Math Course 3, as well as manipulatives and technology.
Units of Study:
The Mathematics CCRS (College and Career Readiness Standards) provided by South Carolina Department of Education will be used and will prepare students for High School Math courses.
This course will cover:
* Linear Equations
* Linear Functions
* Analyzing Linear Equations
* Multiple Representations of Linear Functions
* The Real Number System
* Pythagorean Theorem
* Translations, Reflections, and Rotations
* Congruence of Triangles
* Similarity
* Line and Angle Relationships
* Systems of Equations
* Properties of exponents
* Volume
Materials
Students will need the following materials daily:
· Textbook
· Pencils
· Folder (with loose leaf paper)
Grading Scale:
· A= 100-93
· B= 92-85
· C= 84-77
· D= 76-70
· F= 69-0
Nine Weeks Grade Distribution:
Major Assessments/Test= 45%
Quizzes = 30%
Classwork/Homework = 25%
Reports to Parent
Interim progress reports and report cards will be given out every 4 ½ weeks. If you would like a detailed progress report of your child’s grades broken down by assignments, please sign-up for Parent Portal. Parent Portal will give you an up-to-date, online access to grades, homework, and attendance.
Major Assessments/Tests
All major assessments will be given at the conclusion of each unit of study. All major assessment grades may be retaken. In order to qualify for a retake, the student must first complete a corrective. Retakes will be administered during Scholar Time (BMS)/ LIFT (HPMS). Teachers and administration have the authority to research possible misuse of the retake policy and decline the retake option. No retake assessments will be allowed during the final week of the grading period.
